10 Reasons Why You Should Not Listen to People on Medium Advising What Apple Mac to Buy
If I remember correctly, I bought my first two Macs in the summer of 1995. PowerMac 8100 and PowerBook 150.
The operating system was 7.something. I cannot remember anymore. I am too old.
Since then, I have constantly been using Mac machines. At the moment, I got four different devices, all of which are daily drivers, depending on my mood, what I have to do, and where I have to do it (I am a one-person company doing business consulting). Sometimes I grab any of them; sometimes, I intentionally pick up a particular one.
Machines are as follows:
- MacBook 16, Apple Silicon based; I know it has 32 gigabytes of memory and a beautiful screen. Black as void.
- MacBook 13, Intel-based, I think it is 16 gigabytes of memory, great keyboard with touch stripe (is that thing called stripe?)
- Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.5, generation 4
- Microsoft Surface Laptop 15, generation 3
I use Microsoft machines solely for Microsoft PowerBI, no more, no less.
All machines are extremely fast. All of them boot instantly and work flawlessly. All my documents are stored in the cloud. I don’t care which device I will take with me as long as I have to have PowerBI with me. Then I will take one of the surfaces.
I don’t know how fast they are. I don’t care. Not fast enough to crunch my numbers in real-time. For that, I use Google’s services. Neither of the devices got no enough processor power to crunch data.
Now, let’s talk about ten reasons why you should not take advice from people around here.
- It seems that 99% of people are doing video processing. I know a lot of people. My networking is enormous. I know 2 (two) guys doing videos on Macs. I doubt you need a Mac for video production (at least 99.7 percent of you are reading this).
- Constant complaining that this or that Mac device is a failure is, well, crap. Whatever you buy will fit you. Choose your color and size. Everything else is not essential. Fit it into your budget. Whatever you choose will last for years. It is a safe bet.
- Do you think that MagSafe is important? Do you? I don’t know a single person who managed to damage his Mac because of plugged USB-C power supply. Not even one.
- I don’t care about the screen size; I am writing this on 16 inch Mac because it was on my desk.
- No matter what Mac based on Apple Silicon you choose, your battery will last indefinitely compared to anything else.
- All keyboards are beautiful and will not cause a problem (the guy who designed keyboards in 2015 probably worked for Alfa Romeo before developing that failure). * I am a fond fan of Alfa Romeo, to be clear
- You have enough ports for anything. I never used an SD Card slot. Never. And never will, probably. I don’t see any practical use for that. Okay, maybe 0.3 percent of users dealing with videos need it. The rest of us are regular users.
- Take good care of Mac. Regular microfibre available everywhere will do the job perfectly—for screen and metal. Vacuum keyboard sometimes.
- Use the machine for whatever you want. It will work perfectly smoothly.
- Think different. Do not allow others to think for you. Remember the “1984” commercial? That is what people are doing here. Their opinion is relevant as… Well, it is irrelevant.
Have a beautiful day with your Mac, whatever you are doing with it.
