The Fight
I had a terrible fight with my best friend today.
It started because of nothing. We were chatting on a Sunday morning, and something unimportant escalated into a three-hour-long fight and some harsh words.
I felt disappointed. He felt disappointed.
Even worse, both of us felt terrible, sad, and down.
I called him on the phone.
Can you forgive me, I asked. Yes, can you?
I can.
We are best friends.
The sheer ability of forgiveness is one of the most human qualities and abilities. We don’t remember the fight, and we don’t fill guilt. The Weather was awful, and we were both tense and jumpy. In my professional life, I would skip the day. Personal, we both had to say something. Some things were unpleasant, but we are not the type of people that keep their mouths shut. We say everything out loud.
