This literally hurts reading. Part of my job is to consult the project teams, and often I get a customer where “agile” is a religion, just as you described. A bunch of people usually do not know what they are doing and what the results are supposed to be.
As long as they have a meeting to wash from guilt and point to some unimaginable cause - everything is fine.
The worst case I saw was when I was asked to make the project recovery because they were three years behind schedule. I politely asked why there was no traditional project management method in place they laughed at me. I reminded them that the customer would ask for money back. They stopped.
After an overhaul of the complete project management method, they finished it in a matter of months.
Agile is probably the worst thing IT ever introduced.

Writing, ranting, reading, having fun; all the time. I don't care about rules or deadlines. I express myself the way I want. I write ransom notes for money.
